Ok lol Ron . I have owned and operated a Furniture refinishing shop in Texas for 35 years . I understand you are more of a DIY Kinda Guy , however and so therefore you are more of a teach me what I can do in my garage Kinda Guy . First off Naptha is terrible for your hands , hense your terrinle spots all over your hands and arms . ALWAYS USE GLOVES !Secondly your box store finishes are terrible ! Min Wax as you say Is a Poly finish , slow drying brush on finish . It is a plastic based finish which will yellow very quickly . On top of these flaws its a brushed on finish which never fails to leave brush strokes in the first to the last coat . Heres a suggestion , Strip the piece PERIOD . A proper Metholine Cloride strip will get rid of all the silicone / fisheyes . Sand the piece , stain it . Get a spray rig , not that expensive if you shop properly . Use a sanding sealer ! Shellac is soft and never dries good ! Stain it with a OIL STAIN ! Two coats of Lacquer and DONE ! Why go to All this other BS ? Hey Rob , come to my Shop and I will re educate you !

DAMN IT ALL TO HELL!!!! ๐Ÿ˜ซ๐Ÿ˜ญ
Oh this makes me so mad!!!!๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿคฌ
Why the bleep didn't I see this damn video before I tried to re finish my table table??? For heavens sake NOW I see it??? A year later??? Grrrrr!!!!! If you guys only knew how many times I tried and tried to restain that table top of mine and those stupid bubble things kept happening! It looked terrible! I thought that 2 in 1 stain stuff was absolute garbage. Now I find out I could have just put shellac on it first... โ˜น
DAMN IT!!!!!!

PS He is just showing off. I bet his sandpaper collection isn't REALLY that organized. Because if it is, that's just wrong! I would take all of his perfectly organized tabs and re arrange them so his 220 grit was listed under the 80 grit. WHAT??? I am the mean fat girl that HATES all those skinny pretty girls. If MY project isn't absolutely perfect like his, he has to suffer along with me. I don't care if he is trying to be nice and show me the correct way of doing it for the next time!!!!๐Ÿ˜

Please wear gloves with Naptha and pretty much all things used while finishing. Most are carcinogenic.

Where are your gloves when you're using that Naptha?? Are you not aware that your skin absorbs that stuff and ANY kind of solvent?

Many people like your process but it could've been better. Why not strip? It would've saved you the extra step when you discovered silicone. Moreoever, why not the darker color? This small desk is lighter than the headboard. And as others have said, you should wear gloves and a mask with those solvents.

I don't think I like this stain and finish product. I think I would prefer just to strip the furniture down. The stripper would remove the furniture polish. I think this is a shortcut that would be apparent to the pros who take more time. Better to take more time and to stick to the basic way of restoring the furniture.

I just picked up a can of Polyshade and oil-based wood conditioner and will be trying it out on some pine, soon. Thank you for the great tutorial! A lot of other channels seem to think poly-over-poly means no prep work, then take the stance that the product is no good! Looks like you got great results.

Polyurethane should be put on furniture that was originally varnished. What needs to be done instead is to clean the surface thoroughly, then liquify the old varnish and let it reset.
