About :

here is an easy method to killing fire ants or any other problem ants, it may work for other sugar loving insects as well, possibly africanized bees too, although they can fly when pissed off, where as ants cannot, they can be outrun, these bugs get vicious when the syrup does it stuff. please leave any helpful comments as they help me make better videos
******be sure to only use about 5% or less of boric acid or it works as a repellant more than an attractant*******

why wouldn't you just add more maple syrup instead of throwing out the excess boric acid?

I'm going to try this because you said it makes the ants really mad. Fire ants SHOULD be tortured before they die a miserable death

I want to try this but I have a dog.... I'm thinking if I use a 5 gallon bucket with lid. lay it on it's side and put the mixture on the inside with a bunch of small holes in the bucket... the ants could get in but my dog can't. I would remove it when the ants are gone, I just don't like the idea of a sweet mixture of boric acid my dog might be tempted to lick up. My pooch is an indoor dog but he goes out to potty and I worry about him eating the stuff. How long does it take to work? I'm really sick of carting boiling water out back because it doesn't really work well... kills some but they just move and build a new nest.

How far away from the ant mound do you put this? I've got a mound right outside my back patio door and would prefer fire ants not coming in doors looking for revenge.

You mention Amdro. The problem with it is that it has a short shelf life. A brand new bag is worthless three months after it is opened and who knows how long a bag from a big box store sat in the warehouse before it even made it to the store shelf. Boric acid and borax, on the other hand, last for years if they don't get wet.

Great handling of poison and food stuffs near food on the kitchen table. Disposal of excess poison handled expertly and be sure to leave a sign up for the other critters that says Do not eat. Ants only.

a flamethrower on the disturbed ant mound works a treat! (as long as you don't burn the forest down in the process).

I live in Edmonton Alberta Canada. There baaaack!!! Not sure what kind of ANTS we have. GRRRR. LIttle red coloured AND ALSO LITTLE BLACK ONES. THE RED ONES = hundreds this year created a mound almost a foot high on the lawn and are in several spots on the lawn in smaller "houses". Seems like we get rid of one area and then there's another and another and every year they multiply. Last year we thought we finally got them all. We had put down corn meal which supposedly swells inside them til they POP!? Seem to work but maybe they just hibernated after that with that full tummies!! DOES your method work on any type of ant because there is at least two types on our property?

The reason they get angry is for roaches and ants, eating boric acid is like eating broken glass. It tears them up inside. Also, roaches are cannibalistic, they eat their dead so "it's the gift that keeps on giving." Also since it works on physical biology not chemical poison, insects can't become immune.

Actually you don't have to treat boric acid like a hazmat spill. Handle it the way you would handle soap powder. Boric acid is neutralized by water, so basically don't breathe it if it's airborne, don't eat it and wash your hands after handling and clean any surface used to prepare food. It's even used in small amounts in douches so it can't be that bad for a person handling it.
