Hair Loss: Top 3 Natural Foods to Slow Balding- Thomas DeLauer
DHT:
Dihydrotestosterone, or DHT, is a natural but powerful metabolite of the human body and the main cause of hair loss in both men and women. It’s a chemical derivative of testosterone, created when the metabolism of androgen gets involved with an enzyme called 5-alpha-reductase. It’s formed primarily in the prostate gland, testes, adrenal glands and hair follicles and is important in early stages of development (1) DHT creates an acceleration of the life cycle of the hair, which results in a miniaturization effect on the hair and follicle. Also affects the skin by suffocating the hair follicles, cutting the blood circulation, and making it difficult for the body to deliver essential nutrients for healthy hair growth.
Saw Palmetto:
Saw palmetto is a natural remedy used to treat hair loss - it’s a plant with small berries that has been used by Native Americans as medicine and food for hundreds of years. It’s believed to work by blocking 5-alpha-reductase, the enzyme that converts testosterone to DHT (2)
Studies:
In a 2002 study on ten men with androgenetic alopecia – male pattern baldness – there was an improvement in 60% of the participants. In a study from 2004, 34 men and 28 women received topically applied saw palmetto extract on the scalp. 67% saw a reduction in scalp sebum production and 35% experienced increased hair density (2)
Pygeum:
Pygeum is an extract from the bark of Prunus Africana known in English as the African Plum Tree and has become popular in the last decades due to studies showing its anti-androgenic effects. But it’s believed have a 5 alpha-reductase (5AR) inhibiting mechanism due to the isolated N-butylbenzene-sulfonamide (NBBS) compound in pygeum, which is a specific AR antagonist (3)
Study - Pygeum compared to Finasteride, Saw Palmetto and Tamsulosin
Results - Pygeum: 43.3% improvement. Finasteride: 57% improvement. Saw palmetto: 42.7% improvement.
2,559 patients suffering from BPH and following a various set of treatments were compared with patients that were simply supervised without following any treatment. The treatments followed by the first group included: finasteride, saw palmetto, tamosulosin, and pygeum. After a year, there was a significant improvement registered for the group that received treatment when compared to the untreated group but the results varied according to the type of treatment received. Those who were taking a treatment involving pygeum had 43.3% improvement, comparable to the results for finasteride (57% improvement). Also, the patients that were receiving pygeum africanum had a slightly better improvement rate when compared to those who were treated with saw palmetto (42.7 %). (3)
Magnesium:
*Part of DHT’s effect on hair loss is due to the prevention of nutrients and minerals getting to the hair follicles - magnesium seems to work by help counteract that. The studies done, though, are with magnesium L threonate* However, as Mag Threonate (from what I can find) is the only form of magnesium that can pass through the blood brain barrier, that is the only form that can directly inhibit DHT (4)
Study - Magnesium L Threonate:
Created by taking a sugar that comes from a vitamin C metabolite – called L threonic acid – and combining it with magnesium. In this form, it has the ability to cross the blood-brain barrier, which is rare for supplemental forms of magnesium. A South Korean University way back in 2010 conducted a study in which they looked at the side effect L threonate would have on cultured dermal papilla cells or DPCs. In the study, when the L threonate was added together with DHT in the cultures, the DHT was found to be “significantly repressed.” Implies that L threonate is able to turn off or reduce the expression of the genese DKK1 (dickkopf-1), which means it can reduce the effect of the DHT on these cells (5,6)

There is no scientific evidence that any of these herbs will halt your genetic hair loss.
Anyone who believes this video is in for a big disappointment.
Even the healthiest people in the world go bald if they are genetically inclined to.
Unless you take something powerful to lower your blood DHT like finasteride, there will be no success.
I read one commenter below saying that he stopped his receding hairline just by eating eggs. That has to be the stupidest thing I have ever heard of in my life!
Search "post finasteride sindrome" to see how may people ruined thir lifes with that anti baldness drug.
I do want to point something out, though. Most people take Magnesium OXIDE which has a very low bioavailibility (but is cheap). I take Magnesium Citrate which is much, much better (as I'm sure you know). It might be beneficial to mention this whenever you bring up Mg. Thanks again!
This effectively restrainins bloodflow towards your hair follicles because the galea aponeurotica is being pulled at from both the front and the back. This causes inflammation and produces hic-5. Which in turn affects DHT and Testosterone uptake. To add insult to injury there is a low amount of testosterone available because you're stressed and the body will instead use DHT due to its higher availability. That's why DHT-blockers work but not always.
This is also why herbs like Rosemary can alleviate MPB. They work as an anti-inflammatory for tendons and thus reduce hic-5. Also worth mentioning are the cases where people injected botox in the occipitalis paralysing it and in some cases causing hair to regrow. Other facsinating cases are those of balding males who wish to be females and started taking estrogen injections. These men saw a return of hair due relaxing of the muscles on the scalp caused by the estrogen in their bodies.
Now if magnesium has the same anti-inflammatory properties as Rosemary but on a non-local level. This might be another reason why it boosts hair production. Also, according to this video [ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erHr4R_8KEk ] magnesium re-leaves muscle tightness/cramps. Which might mean it helps the occiptalis and frontal muscles relax alleviating MPB since they're not stretching the galea anymore.
Appreciate the insightful video.
However, I do have to correct your statements. Hair loss is not ONLY DUE TO DHT. It's a complex mini-organ stemming from an avalanche of triggers. I am a researcher and experimenter. I have read over 500 studies. I have tried almost every product you can think of except for drugs and hair transplants. I know all the modulators at play (JAK, PDG2, PGE2, WNT proteins, VEGF, etc.).
Correcting hair loss is not as easy as popping a pill in your mouth or spraying magnesium oil on your skin. Yes, they may modestly work, but don't fool yourself into thinking they are the cure. It's going to take a fork lift to remove the triggers because hair loss is mult-factorial. Does that makes sense?
Instead of using the mainstream medical DHT affirmations as the ultimate answer, one should rather ask this compelling question? What gives rise to DHT? DHT is just the aftermath of a domino effect that takes place before thinning becomes apparent. The precursors can be a number of many different reactions. Vitamin deficiencies, especially zinc, copper, selenium, iodine, B vitamins, fat soluble Vitamin A, etc., too much iron, hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, estrogen dominance, excessive serum IGF-1, excessive prolactin and cortisol (stress hormones), too little of SHBG, leaky gut, insulin resistance, IBS, inflammation, oxidative stress, etc.
I highly urge everyone watching this video to first do a blood test especially for magnesium, copper, iron, and zinc. In 7/10 times, I see a commonality in my patients's reports. It's either they have vitamin deficiencies thus resulting in a hormonal imbalance or they have too much iron. For men, it's a lot harder to exert an iron surplus because of our lack of menstruation. What I advise is to go for blood donations. Iron is the death in disguise. It binds to organs, wreaks havoc, and leaves tiny trails which call cancerous cells.
Saw palmetto does little to no good for reducing DHT and regrowing hair. Zinc is superior in my opinion. No one should ever take supplements due to the risk of overdose and inferiority. Instead, you should focus your attention on superfoods made from God.
When you have a chance, I highly urge you to read my articles.
All my best,

There's not one answer for everything. By the way I'm 29 now and happier than I've ever been :) I'm glad I look good bald, also saves tons of money and time being able to groom myself in the shower. The ladies love how good my head looks now haha
Do vitamins really help do they make a difference. A magnesium vitamin 400mg will that actually help me out. Where can I get protein. Saw plameto and pyguem do I have to take all of them together ot pyguem and magnesium? Can I regrow hair that has been lost? Does green tea eliminate DHT.
Thomas, & others NEVER get into how our mind affects everything. Our subconscious mind takes in all these stories, & theories. (which change constantly as new ones replace them... it's all about money) And as we listen to new, or different themes, & as we identify with these authority figures or products, friends, rituals, etc... their programming that temporarily is working for them... then it's becomes a belief they believe, and as we agree we can eventually create & manifest these beliefs whether positive one's or negative ones. Whichever we align with emotionally.
There is never any mention of the emotional state, or mental beliefs (cause)... instead the focus avoids the true cause.. our conditioned mind, which is getting more programming from mainstream media, etc..
Be aware with who, & what you agree with. Loss of any type is due to an emotional state of being, triggered by a belief in whatever was impressed into your sub-conscious programming. And many beliefs we hold on to are stored associated memories in our subconscious. And our memory beliefs show up as our default response in our body, & whatever circumstances, & conditions we focus on..
Usually this is all happening unconsciously to the person.
As a clinical hypnotherapist, I am able to get into clients stored memory beliefs, &; help them update them.
The power of suggestion is not looked at in mainstream media. Thomas if you read any of your responses under your videos.... start discussing the importance of an individual looking at their programmed beliefs, & their emotional state with creating change.
Wake up people & see what's happening. Or remain in your robotic state always seeking for something outside yourself.
You are the Power.... within YOU. Choose deliberately, & Conscious of your Power to Create your own Reality, not someone else doing it for YOU. Peace & Love with your awakening..
And I recommend 2 books or videos to watch on youtube with Dr. Joe Dispenza, " Breaking the Habit of being Yourself" & "You are the Placebo"
